Where these numbers come from

Every price on this site comes from the U.S. Energy Information Administration's weekly retail gasoline survey, which samples retail outlets across the country and reports averages in dollars per gallon including taxes. We do not scrape station apps, we do not republish proprietary price feeds, and we do not estimate a state number when the EIA does not publish one.

For states outside the nine that report weekly, the state page shows the PADD regional benchmark that applies to that state, labeled as a regional reference. For station-by-station prices you still need a crowdsourced app; what we give you is the honest regional baseline and the math to use it.

Regional benchmarks used

  • New England $4.251
  • Central Atlantic $3.832
  • Lower Atlantic $4.199
  • Midwest $4.269
  • Gulf Coast $3.702
  • Rocky Mountain $4.458
  • West Coast $5.417

Frequently asked questions

What is the average gas price in the United States right now?

The U.S. average for regular gasoline was $4.269 per gallon for the week ending Oct 26, 2026, based on weekly retail price data published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. That is down $0.010 from the previous week.

How often are the gas prices on this site updated?

Every page is rebuilt each Monday after the EIA releases its weekly retail gasoline price survey. The update date is printed at the top of every price panel, so you can always see which week the number refers to.

Why do some states not show a state-level price?

The EIA publishes weekly state averages for nine states and ten metro areas. For the other states we show the regional PADD benchmark that applies to that state, clearly labeled, instead of inventing a statewide number.

Is this site affiliated with AAA, GasBuddy, or Waze?

No. GasPrices.cyou is an independent project. We publish EIA public-domain data, our own calculations, and original guides. We are not affiliated with any fuel retailer, price app, or motoring organization.

Where can I find the cheapest gas near me?

Station-level prices change daily and are not part of the EIA dataset. Use our state and metro pages for the regional benchmark, then use a station-level app for the last mile. Our guide on finding cheap gas stations explains which brands are usually cheapest and why.
